WESTERN DIGITAL ELECTS D. SCOTT MERCER EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Western Digital Corp. (NYSE: WDC) announced today that D. Scott Mercer has been elected to the new position of executive vice president, chief financial and administrative officer. Mercer, 41, joined Western Digital in October 1991 as senior vice president and chief financial officer.
In the new position, Mercer will have worldwide responsibility for the company's administrative activities, including corporate services, real estate, information systems, and human resources. He will retain his duties as chief financial officer with worldwide responsibility for finance activities. He will continue to report to Charles Haggerty, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Western Digital.
In making the announcement, Haggerty stated: "Scott's election and broadened responsibilities are well-deserved recognition for the high caliber of leadership he has demonstrated at Western Digital. Creating this position is also consistent with our strategy of de-layering our management ranks and streamlining the decision-making process."
Before joining Western Digital, Mercer had served in senior financial management positions with technology companies, including Businessland and LSI Logic, in addition to a stint at Price Waterhouse. A native of Minnesota, Mercer earned a B.S. degree in accounting from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
