 WESTEC '92 HIGHLIGHTS U.S. MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY
 LOS ANGELES, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- WESTEC '92, North America's


largest manufacturing exposition, opens today at the Los Angeles Convention Center and runs through Thursday, March 26.
 "Strengthening U.S. manufacturing through technology is a major goal this year," said Nancy Berg, SME director of expositions. "WESTEC '92 showcases the latest manufacturing technologies, production methods and management concepts from the United States and some 20 other countries."
 The show has more than 600 exhibitors, one-third of which are California-based. WESTEC, with over 200,000 square feet of exhibit space, features nearly 6 million pounds of equipment in action, including machine tools, metal forming equipment, finishing processes, laser applications, design equipment and testing/quality control devices.
 Exposition hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, March 23; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, March 24-25; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 26.
 In addition to the exposition, there will be more than 25 conference sessions and courses addressing critical manufacturing issues.
 Highlighting the conference is a Tuesday morning keynote session on continuous quality improvement. Speakers include high-ranking officials from three major California-based corporations: R. Nichols Hazelwood, general manager of the IT Corporation's Air Quality Services in Irvine; Jim C. Hoover, vice president of Commercial Enterprise at Northrop Corporation's Hawthorn Aircraft Division; and John McGovern, group vice president of Toyota Motor Sales, USA, and general manager of Toyota Industrial Equipment in Torrence.
 WESTEC '92 is sponsored by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), the American Machine Tool Distributors' Association (AMTDA), the Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT) and ASM International.
