WENTWORTH GALLERIES PRESENT A CROATIAN ART PREMIERE: AMIDST CONFLICT, ARTISTS FIND BEAUTY

MIAMI, Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- On Feb. 20, the world of art convenes under the proud sponsorship of Wentworth Galleries for a premiere exhibition of 10 acclaimed Croatian artists.
The Honorable Petar Sarcevic, Ambassador of the newly independent Republic of Croatia, will be a special guest at the exhibit and champagne reception, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Wentworth Gallery at Pentagon City in Arlington, Va.
In the Wentworth tradition, the exhibit is the result of company President Michael O'Mahony's personal travels through the war-torn countryside of Croatia in search of the best in that nation's art.
He now shares with us paintings of sublime beauty in the renowned Croatian school of "hyper-realism." Works like Frane Mlinar's "Peaceful Dawn," which ineffably expresses the persistence of beauty and the transcendence of the human spirit under harsh conditions, paintings that have received the highest critical acclaim from the art establishment of Europe.
On the cutting edge of the Croatian "hyper-realistic" movement, Mlinar is exhibited in the Croatian Embassy collection in Washington, as well as many other prominent European and American collections.
More than 80 percent of Wentworth's ground-breaking exhibit will consist of original oil paintings on canvas, with the remainder being limited-edition silk-screen serigraphs by Mlinar and such compatriots as Branko Modic, Goran Mustapic, Neverko Zunic, Robert Zunic, Mirjana Domancic, and Tomislav Ivanisin, to name a few.
The serenity of these Adriatic water scenes with their deep, moody blues, the meditative stillness of these landscapes and villages, belies any hint of strife. It's a sense of reality more akin to a dream or a memory, reminding us of a nation's history which stands outside the present moment, a stillness of memory in which an artist can take refuge.
People respond to these painting on an immediate emotional level, says Wentworth Galleries President O'Mahony. "They make a very powerful statement."
The presence of the Honorable Mr. Sarcevic, Croatian Ambassador, along with the works of 10 artists from his homeland, should make the occasion one of special human resonance, O'Mahony says.
A Premiere Exhibit of Croatian Art: Saturday, Feb. 20, 2-5 p.m., Wentworth Gallery in the Fashion Center at Pentagon City, Arlington, Va. The public is invited to attend.
