WENGER'S EDIN FOR DZEKO BID; Gunners to help out Giroud; Gunners eye Edin; EXCLUSIVE.

Byline: JOHN CROSS

EDIN DZEKO is the latest player on Arsenal's January transfer hit-list.

The Manchester City striker (left), who admitted last week that he is unhappy at his lack of game-time this season, is seen as a player who can help ease the burden on Olivier Giroud. Mirror Sport revealed this week that Arsenal have asked Real Madrid to keep them informed on Karim Benzema, if they decide to sell with his contract ticking down.

But Gunners boss Arsene Wenger (right) is also understood to have an eye on Dzeko - and would make a move, given encouragement from City. Inter Milan are also keen on the Bosnian forward.

Wenger is acutely aware of the strain being put on his one star striker Giroud, who has been put on a special training programme to ensure he stays fit to lead the Gunners' title challenge.

The France frontman has played 18 games already for Arsenal this season, and showed signs of tiredness after reporting for his country's World Cup play-off with Ukraine tonight.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are confident that contract negotiations with Wenger are going well and that the Frenchman will commit himself to a new contract.

The club has agreed a new four-year deal in principle with Wojciech Szczesny, although the Poland keeper has yet to put pen to paper.
