WENDY'S FOUNDER HOLDS NEWS CONFERENCE TO SHARE TIPS FOR SUCCESS

WENDY'S FOUNDER HOLDS NEWS CONFERENCE TO SHARE TIPS FOR SUCCESS
WHO: Local high school journalism students from Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties have the opportunity to watch and write about a news conference featuring Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy's, who will share his "Old-Fashioned Tips for Success."
Thomas' positive messages in "Dave's Way," his best-selling autobiography, earned rave reviews from many national leaders. During a video presentation and a news conference with high school journalists, he will share his insights and advice, then field questions from student journalists.
WHAT: Stories on the event that are published in high school newspapers become eligible to win a $1,500 prize for the writer's college studies and a $1,000 award for the writer's school.
The nationwide competition, sponsored by Wendy's, will have six regional winners selected by judges representing the Quill & Scroll Society, the national honor society for high school journalists.
WHY: Thomas had long been involved with young people through his support of adoption causes. Spaulding for Children, a national special needs adoption agency, will present Thomas with an award at the news conference for his role in promoting adoption. As a past recipient of the Horatio Alger Award, he toured the U.S., speaking to over 12,000 high school students and encouraging them to strive for success.
Instilling in young people a belief in hard work, education, and values is, said Thomas, one of his most satisfying activities.
 WHERE: Radisson Hotel, Southfield
 WHEN: Monday, Nov. 9
 10 a.m.-noon
Media are welcome to cover the event, and the opportunity to cover student journalists attending what is probably their first major news conference is interesting feature material. Members of the general news media will be allowed to ask questions and media may arrange for an interview with Thomas immediately after the news conference, CONTACT: Susan Alexy of The Berline Group, 313-540-7557, for Wendy's.
