WELLS FARGO TO TEST ITS EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS THIS WEEKEND
Half of Bank's ATM Will Be Down Around the State
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Beginning Saturday night, Nov. 9, at 8 p.m., Wells Fargo will conduct a statewide test of the emergency back-up systems for its 1,600 Express ATM machines. The bank will switch operating systems from its Northern California center and run the ATMs from its Southern California operations center. The test will end on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 10.
"For the past two years we have been making systems changes so that we can continue to operate half of our ATM machines throughout the state if our operations center in the north was knocked out by an earthquake or other disaster," explained Loraine Boland, vice president of Electronic Banking. "Our goal is to continue to provide non-stop ATM service to our customers during an emergency. This test will simulate that experience.
"Half of our ATMs around the state will be down during the test," she said. Boland explained that at all locations with two or more ATMs, at least one machine will work.
On Saturday, Nov. 2, the bank posted notices about the test at each ATM around the state. The notices also advise customers that the bank will waive fees if they use other banks' ATMs in the Star System and Plus System networks during the weekend.
"We don't want to inconvenience customers, so we've tried to inform them well ahead of time about their options," noted Boland. "We're conducting this test to make sure we deliver the kind of service our customers expect, especially during an emergency."
As part of the weekend test, the bank's point of sale (POS) operating systems will be tested on back-up systems. "Customers should not have any problem using their ATM card to make purchases at grocery stores or retail outlets," said Boland.
