WEITEK ADDS BARRY COX AS PRESIDENT/CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Weitek Corp. (NASDAQ: WWTK) today announced the addition of Barry Cox as president and chief operating officer. He will be joining Art Collmeyer, chairman and chief executive officer, in the newly formed Office of the Chief Executives.
Cox joined Weitek from ATEQ Corp., a semiconductor equipment manufacturer. He was a co-founder of ATEQ in 1984, and was president and CEO at the time of its acquisition by ETEC in 1991. Before that, he spent nine years at Intel, as vice president and general manager of Intel Memory Components Division, and later as vice president and general manager of Intel Europe. Prior to that, he held a variety of marketing positions in the Bipolar Division of Texas Instruments. He holds a B.S. from the Air Force Academy and an M.B.A. from Boston University.
"Barry Cox is an outstanding team player and team builder," said Collmeyer. "His nearly 20 years of successful general management experience in the semiconductor industry, combined with his 'make-it- happen' mindset, will strengthen our operational capabilities, allowing me to devote more time to strategic issues, and to key customer and technology partner relationships."
"I'm really excited about the opportunity here at Weitek," said Cox. "This company has a very talented group of people, and its technology, strategy and product focus are fundamentally sound. This is a company that's going places."
Weitek Corp. makes processors and controllers that enhance the performance of standard operating systems, user interfaces, and application software. The company's products are used to build faster, more intuitive desktop computers and peripherals.
