WEIGHT-MANAGEMENT COMPANY SIGNS OFF ON INTERNATIONAL-EXPANSION AGREEMENT

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Diet Center, Inc. has awarded the franchise development rights for key South American countries to a consortium of Chilean investors, according to a statement the company made today.
The first phase of the two-phase international expansion agreement calls for four Diet Center locations to open throughout Chile, beginning in March of 1994. Phase two -- a three-year term that begins in December of 1996 -- will establish 18 new Diet Center locations throughout Ecuador, Argentina, Venezuela, Uruguay, Peru and Colombia.
"We expect aggressive expansion throughout South America to significantly strengthen Diet Center's international presence," said Paul Modzelewski, vice president of franchise development, adding that the agreement culminates months of negotiation between Diet Center, Inc. and the investment group.
"We chose Diet Center over other companies because of their lifestyle-change approach that's based on `real food,'" said Fernando Gonzalez, president of the Chilean investment consortium, who has more than 20 years of experience in health and wellness.
Diet Center, Inc. also is currently negotiating the franchise rights for several Middle Eastern and European countries.
Franchised Diet Center businesses administer an individualized, counseling-based weight-management system that meets the latest scientific recommendations for safe, effective weight loss and weight maintenance.
Diet Center, Inc., based in Pittsburgh, is one of the largest franchisors of commercial weight-management businesses in North America.
