WEIGHT WATCHERS FOOD COMPANY TEAMS UP WITH AMERICAN AIRLINES
 ON IN-FLIGHT MENU PROGRAM
PITTSBURGH, June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Weight Watchers Food Company and American Airlines are teaming up to bring low calories to high altitudes. Beginning July 1, the Weight Watchers "Garden Lasagna" entree will be featured as the low calorie, as well as, low sodium and low fat/cholesterol menu option on American's U.S. flights.
"Weight Watchers has earned the trust of millions of people because of its sensible nutritional guidelines and its fine line of food products which meet those guidelines," said George Mueller, American's vice president, customer services. "We were impressed with their products and their ability to meet our requirements for lower sodium, fat and cholesterol."
"This is a win-win program for both companies," said Brian Ruder, president of Weight Watchers Food Company. "A Weight Watchers entree will create immediate confidence among American Airline passengers that they are being served calorie-controlled, healthy and great tasting food. For Weight Watchers, this program offers us an opportunity to reach additional consumers with our delicious products."
Under the program, passengers who order low-calorie, low sodium or low fat/cholesterol meals on flights offering hot entrees, will be served the Weight Watchers "Garden Lasagna" entree. The tray set-up will include a pamphlet containing nutritional information about the entree which has only 210 calories, 330 milligrams sodium, 5 grams fat and 15 milligrams cholesterol.
American began programs using branded food products in its coach service last year. "We found that our customers responded very favorably to the high quality and the familiar brand names," said Mueller. "We are confident that people who are counting their calories will welcome the addition of this Weight Watchers entree and will appreciate its quality, flavor and appearance."
American Airlines customers who want to order the Weight Watchers "Garden Lasagna" entree may do so when they make their reservation. All they have to do is request either the low-calorie, low sodium or low fat/cholesterol meal at least six hours before their flight departure time.
