WEIGHT WATCHERS AND BURGER KING EXPAND TEST
 TO OFFER CONSUMERS DIETARY ALTERNATIVES
MIAMI, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Following a successful 150 restaurant test, today Burger King(R) announced an expansion of its "Your Way...The Lighter Way" menu featuring low calorie Weight Watchers products. A total of 348 Burger King(R) restaurants nationwide will now offer Weight Watchers lunch, dinner and dessert items.
"From our point of view, placing Weight Watchers in Burger King(R) reinforces our name as the gold standard in health and weight loss foods," commented Brian Ruder, president of Weight Watchers Food Co.
Over the past year, the test expanded from one restaurant in Miami in July 1991 to 144 by October. Weight Watchers products will now be featured in an additional 204 Burger King(R) restaurants.
The new Burger King(R) menu boards display a "Your Way...The Lighter Way" menu with Weight Watchers products and other lower fat, low calorie items such as the BK Broiler, Broiled Chicken salad and Breyers frozen yogurt. Among the choices on the "Lighter Way" menu are Weight Watchers Fettuccine with Broiled Chicken, Weight Watchers Baked Potato with Broccoli and Cheese, and Weight Watchers Chocolate Mocha Pie. Weight Watchers Ranch Dressing is also available.
"We have seen an extremely positive response in the test restaurants and are excited about further expansion," said Sidney Feltenstein, executive vice president Brand Strategy, Burger King Corporation. "Consumers are telling us they want variety at Burger King(R). With the addition of Weight Watchers, we are now catering to another segment of the population -- health conscious consumers."
