WEGENER RECEIVERS BRING DIVERSITY TO THEATERVISION NETWORK

DULUTH, Ga., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Wegener Communications has completed a deal to provide retunable receivers to Theatervision Network, a pay-per-view network that began broadcasting on March 1.
The Wegener receivers will enable Theatervision to create different broadcasting schedules for local cable operators across what is scheduled on the network's eight transponders.
Theatervision Network broadcasts movies and events. The nationwide network had been looking for a company with the technological capabilities to allow for different program schedules according to the different needs of cable operators. Wegener had proven successes in this area with such networks as Prime SportsChannel Network.
"We looked at different technologies, but Wegener was the only company to have what we needed right now," said Rich Kirby, vice president of operations for Graff Pay-Per-View, which distributes Theatervision, Spice and Cable Video Store to the cable community. "In addition, Wegener's track record gave us confidence in them," he said.
An additional advantage for Graff was the fact the Wegener is PC- based. This made possible an active link between the Wegener technology and Graff's database.
Bob Placek, president and CEO of Wegener, remarked: "We were selected by Theatervision because of our proven ability to control large satellite networks, whether they be audio, data or video. Wegener currently has over 100,000 addressable receiver sites worldwide."
Wegener Communications, Inc. is a subsidiary of Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ: WGNR) based in Duluth, Ga., an Atlanta suburb. Wegener Communications designs and manufactures audio, data and video transmission products and systems for satellite and terrestrial networks. Wegener equipment is used extensively throughout the cable television, radio and television broadcast, and business broadcast industries.
