WEEKEND: PET SOS: Little terrier acts as the ears for Petty.

Byline: ANN EVANS

JOHN TYLER, of Holbrooks, Coventry, tells us about life with his cat, Petty, and his Yorkshire Terrier, Rudi.

Four years ago Mr Tyler's daughter left England to live on the Caribbean island of Antigua with her husband and he offered to look after Rudi while they were gone.

Petty the cat is 20 years old and totally deaf, but the two animals have a close relationship where the dog acts as the ears for Petty and lets John know if she wants his help.

Rudi can also do tricks, including taking a knife and fork out of his dogfood and washing them and then cleaning out his bowl.

John got Rudi a kennel, but the cat took it over and chased him away and he's never been back.

All the neighbourhood children love Rudi and the terrier will not let John pass a pram as he wants to see the baby.
