WEE DELIVER COMES TO RAYMOND ELEMENTARY
Cleveland Postal Service officials join Raymond Elementary School

Principal Claudette Burke at a mock postmaster swearing in ceremony. The event takes place at the school auditorium on March 6 at 2:30 p.m. Raymond Elementary is located at 18500 Raymond St., Maple Heights, Ohio.
The ceremony will mark the beginning of the Postal Servcie's "Wee Deliver Program" at Raymond. The highly successful program is part of the "Stamp Out Illiteracy" effort established in elementary schools across the country. The program allows elementary school students to use the letter exchange experience through an intra school post office.
"Wee Deliver" is designed to improve the children's reading, writing and interpersonal relationship skills. The mini-mail service features a postmaster, nixie clerk, sorter, facer/canceler and carriers selected on an alternating basis. A mail bag, cancelling stamps and sorting cases are provided by the Cleveland Main Post Office. Directories with school colors are made, substituting classrooms for street names. House numbers are created by alphabetizing the names of classroom students. Hallways and floors are given city names. The school Zip Code is used, and the ZIP+4 Code is the classroom number. Postal Service clerk Rosalind Dillard, a volunteer, works with the schools and collects information for the directories.
According to Cochise Cash, communications manager for the Cleveland division, "The 'Wee Deliver' program began in Lakeland, Florida, over a year and a half ago."
Other Cleveland area elementary schools taking part in the program are: Clara Westropp, John Raper and Carylwood Intermediate School.
