The National Television Awards 2012 ITV1, 7.30pm Now in their 17th year, the NTAs are bigger and better than ever before, with some seriously close-run categories. The X Factor has triumphed several times for the Talent Show trophy, but Strictly Come Dancing, Dancing on Ice and Britain''s Got Talent will be giving it a run for its money this time around. The mighty Doctor Who and Downton Abbey do battle against each other as well as Waterloo Road and Merlin in the Drama category. Hosted by Dermot O''Leary.

MasterChef BBC1, 9pm In episode five of the latest run, 10 surviving contestants are split into two teams to prepare lunch for the 100 patrons of the Jane Austen Festival in Bath. With chicken, gooseberries, figs and quince on the menu, it''s anyone''s guess who will emerge victorious. However, we can tell you the winning team''s members go on to take charge of a course at an exclusive dinner with acclaimed chef Jason Atherton, and the cook who fails to show sufficient attention to detail and timing will be shown the door.
