WED FOR 80 YEARS; World record for Roy and Bertha.
ROY and Bertha Adams are celebrating being married for longer than anyone else in the world.
The couple, both 101, have spent an incredible 80 years together, winning them a place in the Guinness World Records book.
The secret of their long life and happiness? Mowing the lawn and going to church, says Roy, an exbarber. And children. Lots of them. As well as fostering more than 200 youngsters over the years, the couple also had five children of their own. And they now have 16 grand children, 22 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great grandchildren.
Roy can still remember first meeting Bertha at her cousin's wedding in Oklahoma in 1927. "She caught my eye and I liked the look of her at once," he says. "Haven't had no trouble at all... raised five children and they're all still doing good. But back in the 30s it was rough We lived in a log cabin with a dirt floor."
Being married for 80 years is so rare there is no name for it - the nearest is platinum for a 70th anniversary.
The previous long marriage record was held by another US couple, John and Emelia Rocchio. They celebrated their 83rd wedding anniversary last year - but Emelia died just weeks later at the age of 100.
Devoted, Roy and Bertha
