WEAN INDUSTRIES TO SUPPLY BAR DRAWING SYSTEM TO ALCOA, MASSENA
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Wean Industries has received an order in excess of $2 million for the design and supply of an aluminum bar drawing system from the Aluminum Company of America's (NYSE: AA) Wire, Rod, and Bar Division in Massena, N.Y.
The system was designed through a half-year joint partnering effort between Wean and Alcoa, using a cross-functional team approach. The Wean/Alcoa team succeeded in developing the specifications for a highly efficient bar drawing system incorporating the latest designs into a single continuous process center capable of handling a wide range of sizes and shapes of aluminum bars. The system incorporates feeding, straightening, pointing and cutting-to-length.
R.J. Wean III, president and CEO of Wean Industries, said, "The joint experience has led to many significant improvements in noise level control, scrap reduction, tool changing and aluminum bar processing. This new world-class system is scheduled to be operational early next year."
Dating back to 1902, Alcoa's Massena Operations comprise the oldest continuously operating aluminum production and fabricating facility in the western hemisphere. The aluminum wire, rod and bar plant is the largest and most versatile in the world.
Wean Industries, a division of Wean Incorporated (NYSE: WID), is a leading producer of equipment for processing flat-rolled metals, tubular and bar products, rubber and plastics.
