IT'S a rare city that can boast a takeaway run by one MasterChef finalist - and rarer still to find out run by two such culinary stars.

Yet that's exactly what Cardiff already has in Dale Williams and Larkin Cen's Hokkei - and, as we report today, there could be three more of their outlets on the way.

In recent years, the quality of a city's eateries has somehow become synonymous with its prosperity. For too long, Cardiff languished well off the beaten path for foodies, with critics bemoaning the lack of top awards. But now even our humble takeaways can boast the talents of recognised star chefs.

Meanwhile, the expansion plans outlined today demonstrate not just a confidence in our local food scene but a wider confidence in the city that might yet be felt beyond South Wales. Let's hope Dale and Larkin have hit upon a sweet recipe for success.
