WE NEED NANNY STATE TO STOP ACID ATTACKS.
Byline: Anne Diamond
BRING on the nanny state if it helps with this latest epidemic of mindless violence.
These depraved acid attacks seem to be so random and careless you can't even call them hate crimes because there appears to be no passion or feeling at all, just a callous contempt for society and fellow human beings.
I'd like to see our police more visible and I'm not worried about having to justify with the local shopkeeper my need to buy a bottle of bleach or drain cleaner.
Let's listen to the victims, and put their feelings first.
One petition, started by one of the acid victims, who says she's in hospital waiting for her face to grow back, calls for a ban on the sale of acid to anyone without a licence and restrict sales of other everyday corrosive substances like drain cleaners, bleach and battery fluid.
Street gangs are using acid more because of the crackdown on knives and guns. So let's crack down on this, too.
Never mind the cries of "nanny state". Sometimes that's what's needed.
