WE'VE had our new puppy [...]; Pets and their people.

Q WE'VE had our new puppy a month. He bites and chews everything! I know he's teething, but he has plenty of chew toys. Are there any anti-chew sprays or advice you would give?

BARTON replies: I'm afraid this is what puppies do -they love to chew! You can help by training him to chew the right things. A water pistol is a useful tool to distract a dog if he is about to chew the wrong thing, so just spray a jet at the back of his head and when he stops offer him a chew and praise him when he settles down with it. There is a spray called bitter apple from pet shops, which is designed to protect items from chewing, it is non-toxic, safe and usually effective when sprayed over the items.
