WE'RE STILL ON UP; Hodgson believes Giants are showing signs of improvement.
CAPTAIN Brett Hodgson doesn't believe the confidence of the Giants will have dipped after throwing away a 12-0 lead at Super League champions Leeds.
Huddersfield fell to a 20-12 defeat after holding a 12-point advantage after 42 minutes.
Victory for the visitors would have been their first success at Headingley for almost half a century.
But their brave challenge was ended in the 77th-minute when Hodgson's long pass was intercepted by Kallum Watkins close to his own line to race the length of the field to score.
It was obviously a cruel end to the contest, but the former Wests Tigers' ace, below, remains far from downbeat.
"It was obviously disappointing to lose, because we played reasonably well without breaking any records," he said.
"We created several opportunities and just couldn't take them, and when we made a couple of errors a quality side like Leeds are always going to hurt you..
"And it was also disappointing that it was an intercept off one of my passes that sealed the game.
"To be honest, it was one of those 50-50 plays. We were either going to score in the corner and possibly win the game or they were going to get the intercept and finish us off.
"I went for the play because I thought their winger was holding back a bit, but it wasn't to be.
"Even though we ended up losing, I think the game showed we're not too far away from Leeds.
"I don't think that's always been the case for Huddersfield. In fact, I don't think eight weeks ago we believed we could beat Leeds, but we felt we could yesterday.
"It's just a massive shame we came up just short." One of the features of the games was the amount of dropped ball from both sides.
But the inspirational 31-year-old full-back doesn't believe the heat was to blame.
"It was a really tough contest, and I think that was a big factor," he added.
"There's no doubt it's the most physical game I've played in this year."
MOMENT TO SAVOUR: Kevin Brown touches the ball down to give the Giants a 12-0 42nd-minute lead, with his teammates (bottom) gathering round to celebrate the score.
