EMILY Blunt is excellent in gripping thriller The Girl on the Train (tomorrow, Channel 4, 9pm), adapted from the bestseller by Paula Hawkins.

Rachel Watson (Blunt) takes regular train journeys past her old house where her cheating ex Tom (Justin Theroux) lives with his mistress Anna (Rebecca Ferguson) and their baby.

One morning, Rachel stares bleary-eyed out of the train window and glimpses neighbour Megan in a clinch with another man. Megan subsequently vanishes and Rachel gets caught up in the police investigation.

This is a smart psychological potboiler anchored by a strong performance from Blunt.
