WATCH IT.

IT HAS been 12 years since David Brent (Ricky Gervais) ruled the roost at the Slough branch of Wernham Hogg Paper Company. In David Brent: Life on the Road (tonight, BBC1, 10.20pm) he's now a travelling salesman, peddling sanitary products. Brent takes unpaid leave to pursue his dream of music stardom as lead singer of his band, Foregone Conclusion. He hires despairing road manager (Tom Basden), a quartet of talented session musicians and a rapper and the mutinous crew embarks on a tour.

This is a toe-curling faux documentary, peppered with one-liners and moments of skin-crawling brilliance.
