WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION: CONSTRUCTION WORKER KILLED IN ACCIDENT ON SR 520 IN BELLEVUE

 BELLEVUE, Wash., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- A construction worker for Totem Electric of Tacoma Inc. was killed this afternoon at approximately 2:45 p.m. when struck by a car while working in a construction zone on eastbound State Route 520 in Bellevue.
 The worker was working behind traffic cones on the shoulder of the roadway between the traffic lane and the guardrail when the accident occurred just west of 148th Ave. NE. The driver of the vehicle drove through the cones, into the work zone and hit the worker.
 Totem Partners/J.V. is a contractor working for the Washington State Department of Transportation to install Surveillance, Control & Driver Information equipment on SR 520. The worker was a laborer on the project.
 The right-hand eastbound lane is currently closed. The driver of the vehicle was detained, and the accident is under investigation by the Washington State Patrol.
