WASHINGTON SCIENTIFIC ANNOUNCES PERSONNEL REDUCTION AT LONG LAKE FACILITY

 MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Washington Scientific Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSCI) today reported that it has significantly reduced employment levels at its Long Lake, Minn. manufacturing and administrative facilities.
 Since the company's August 29, 1993, fiscal year-end, Long Lake manufacturing employment has been reduced by 54 percent and administrative staff employment has been reduced by 30 percent. During the same period, employment at the company's Owatonna manufacturing facility has increased by 3 percent.
 The company indicated that the Long Lake personnel reductions were occasioned by lower production requirements from IBM Corp., one of the company's major customers. Implementation of several projects for new manufacturing customers has occasioned increased employment levels at the company's Owatonna facility.
 Washington Scientific Industries is a Minnesota-based provider of high precision manufacturing services for a variety of industries. The company's Contract Manufacturing Division produces machined metal components and subassemblies in two Minnesota plants.
