WASHINGTON MUTUAL: EDUCATION SUMMIT

 TACOMA, Wash., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Dozens of parents, students and educators meet tomorrow during the state's largest Hispanic Education Summit to discuss the special needs of Hispanic students and their parents, Washington Mutual Savings Bank (NASDAQ: WAMU) said today.
 The conference, coordinated by the Hispanic Education Task Force for Pierce County and sponsored by Washington Mutual, is designed to open channels of communication and promote understanding among school administrators, school board members, teachers and Hispanic students and parents.
 Keynote speakers at the conference will be Rosa Sheets, a teacher at Seattle's Cleveland High School who is known for her advanced placement program in Spanish literature for Hispanic students, and Benjamin Soria, deputy superintendent of the Tacoma Public Schools. Judith Billings, Washington's superintendent of public instruction, is expected to address the conference.
 The conference, held in the Student Center at Tacoma Community College, will feature panel discussions on the state's 1988 Master Plan for Improvement of Education of Hispanic Youth; current barriers to education; and how to empower parents and students to become more involved in the education process.
 Co-sponsors of the summit are Tacoma Community College Multi- Cultural Services, El Centro Latino SER, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Puget Sound Educational Service District and Tacoma Public School District No. 10.
