WASHINGTON HOMES, INC. POSTS RECORD NEW ORDERS AND NEW HOME DELIVERIES

 LANDOVER, Md., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Washington Homes, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: WHIN) announced today record new home deliveries and new orders taken for the fiscal year ended July 31, 1993.
 The company delivered 960 homes in the 1993 fiscal year, compared to 862 homes in the fiscal year 1992, an increase of 11 percent. New orders for fiscal 1993 increased 10 percent to 1,009 homes compared to 916 net signed sales contracts in fiscal 1992. The company's backlog of homes under contract as of July 31, 1993, increased to 571 homes valued at $80.5 million from 522 homes valued at $76 million on July 31, 1992, representing the highest backlog of number of homes sold and dollar value under contract for any previous fiscal year end.
 In announcing the record results, Geaton A. DeCesaris Jr., the company's president and chief executive officer, said: "This is a very exciting time for Washington Homes. With the initial public offering behind us, we can now focus on improving operations and use the additional capital raised to take advantage of opportunities for expansion within our geographic region." The company expects to announce year-end financial results in mid-September.
 Washington Homes designs, builds and markets single family detached homes, townhomes and condominiums. It is a leading provider of moderately priced, quality homes in the Washington and Baltimore metropolitan areas.
