WARNER BROS. OPENS NEW STUDIO RESEARCH FACILITY
BURBANK, Calif., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Warner Bros. has

officially opened The Warner Bros. Studios Research Library, it was jointly announced today by the studio's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert A. Daly and President and Chief Operating Officer Terry Semel.
The ultra-modern facility, located at 5200 Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood, contains 35,000 books and more than 1.5 million visual items. The facility and services are available not only to those working in film, television and theater, but also to architects, interior designers and decorators, fashion designers, theme park developers, special events planners and other professionals.
Specific services include locating pictorial materials, providing historical and contemporary research, verifying facts, researching biographical information and furnishing document delivery. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.
The centerpiece of the new library is the entire research collection of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, which was acquired by Warner with its 1988 purchase of Lorimar Telepictures. Founded during Hollywood's "Golden Era," the MGM library provided continual research to producers, art directors, makeup artists, costume designers, property craftsmen and others involved in the filmmaking art.
In acquiring the library, Warner Bros. recognized its irreplaceable value and moved to preserve and further enhance the collection by creating its present modern facility, complete with temperature- and humidity-controlled rooms and a spacious reading room.
Stated John Schulman, Warner Bros.' executive vice president and general counsel, who has overseen the new library from the outset, "We truly believe and are gratified that The Warner Bros. Studios Research Library now stands as perhaps the finest collection of visual, historical and factual data for entertainment industry reference in the world today.
"Many of the materials involved are extremely rare. We view ourselves more as the custodians than the owners of this remarkable collection. We remain fully dedicated to its continued use and preservation."
Staffed by full-time professionals who continue to augment its resources, the library is now under the direction of Anne G. Schlosser, who served as head of USC's Cinema-Television Library from 1987-1991. Schlosser was previously director of the Louis B. Mayer Library at the American Film Institute and earlier, head of the Theatre Arts Library at UCLA. A former director of AFI's Film/TV Documentation Workshop and USC's Entertainment Resources Seminar, she is also past president of the Society of California Archivists and a current member of the Society of American Archivists.
Schlosser is assisted by research librarian Barbara M. Poland, who has been associated with the MGM research collection since 1979. Poland received her master's degree in library science from USC in 1986.
