WARNER BROS. AND QVC MARSHALL FORCESTO MARKET SUMMER ADVENTURE FILM 'FREE WILLY'
QVC to Offer Official Movie Merchandise on May 12, 9 p.m. ET BURBANK, Calif., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Warner Bros. and QVC will launch a new movie marketing and merchandising campaign spotlighting the soon-to-be-released film "Free Willy," it was jointly announced by Dan Romanelli, president, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, and Doug Briggs, executive vice president, electronic retailing, QVC. This Warner Bros./QVC partnership offers television viewers and film enthusiasts the opportunity to view specially selected scenes from the movie and to shop at home for official movie and licensed merchandise. According to Romanelli, "Our partnership provides an innovative way to both promote this highly anticipated film and merchandise the film's exciting line of products. This is a very visible vehicle to create audience awareness in advance of the movie and extend the platform for retailing products." "`Free Willy' is a unique movie we know QVC viewers will enjoy," said Briggs. "And our ability to share this news in advance of the movie opening is exciting. For our viewers, learning about the movie as we debut the merchandise will add another dimension to our programming." "Free Willy" is directed by Simon Wincer and produced by Jennie Lew Tugend and Lauren Shuler-Donner from a screenplay by Keith A. Walker and Corey Blechman, based on a story by Keith A. Walker. Richard Donner and Arnon Milchan are the executive producers. "Free Willy" is an emotional adventure story about a rebellious young boy, his special friendship with a captured whale and a daring plan to set the whale free. Official "Free Willy" merchandise to be featured includes cast and crew t-shirts, caps and shorts, as well as "Free Willy" plush whales, limited edition movie posters and the film's soundtrack.
