WAREHOUSE CLUB, INC. ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION OF JAMES V. WALSH,
 PRESIDENT
CHICAGO, June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Warehouse Club Inc. (WCLB), the Chicago headquartered wholesale cash-and-carry merchandiser, announced the resignation of its president and chief operating officer, James V. Walsh. Mr. Walsh will continue to work with the company to effect a smooth transition of his responsibilities, initially on a full-time basis and later on a consultation basis, through at least the end of July.
Mr. Walsh noted, "I leave Warehouse Club with great sadness after having worked closely with the current management team in repositioning the company, and I am proud of the company's progress. In leaving Warehouse Club to join another fine organization with a unique opportunity for my career development and for realizing my family's desire to live in a smaller urban setting, I will continue to observe the progress of Warehouse Club with interest."
The company also announced that the board of directors had formed an office of the chief executive as part of the transition of Mr. Walsh's responsibilities. This office will consist of Richard Palmer as vice president, operations; Gene Wright as vice president, merchandising; and Edwards W. Elliott Jr. as a member of the board of directors. The office will be responsible for assisting in the selection of a successor to Mr. Walsh and for overseeing the continued implementation of the business plan developed by the company in 1991 in conjunction with its repositioning strategy and the common stock rights offering concluded last fall.
Warehouse Club Inc. operates a chain of ten wholesale cash-and- carry, members only warehouse stores, selling high-quality merchandise at wholesale or near wholesale prices. The company's customers are comprised of businesses that purchase items for commercial use or resale and selected groups of individual retail customers. The company's objective is to achieve operating efficiencies that permit the sale of products at prices significantly below those members would have to pay at traditional wholesale distributors, discount retailers and supermarkets.
