WARD'S REPORTS ESTIMATED PRODUCTION

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. car and truck manufacturers have scheduled an estimated 249,310 vehicle assemblies for this week, including medium- and heavy-duty trucks, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.

This week's scheduled output is down slightly from last week's revised count of 250,218. Actual production for the week could end up considerably below that if a strike by a General Motors Corp. parts plant forces assembly plants to shut down.

Estimated calendar-1996 U.S. car and truck output through the end of this week is 2,276,273, a decline of 7.7 percent vs. same-period 1995.

Scheduled Canadian car and truck output this week is 55,671 -- nearly even with last week's actual count of 55,691. Estimated calendar- 1996 car and truck output in Canada is running 6.7 percent behind same- period 1995.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the United States, GM accounts for 35.2 percent; Ford Motor Co., 29.4 percent; Chrysler Corp., 14.8 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 4.9 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. USA Inc., 3.4 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.3 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.9 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 1.5 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America, 1.4 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.3 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.3 percent and other manufacturers, 1.6 percent.
