WARD'S REPORTS ESTIMATED PRODUCTION

DETROIT, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. vehicle manufacturers are slated to produce 237,250 vehicles this week, bringing total car and truck output for 1994 to 478,733, according to Ward's Automotive Reports. Total calendar-year production is outpacing year-ago's rate by 23.0 percent.
This week's scheduled output is 1.8 percent lower than last week's actual build of 241,483. Of the planned production, 134,335 units are passenger cars and 102,915 are trucks -- including medium- and heavy- duty makes. This week's lower production is due entirely to trucks, which was partially hurt by a union strike at General Motors Corp.'s Shreveport, La., facility.
Scheduled Canada production for this week is 38,243, up 32.3 percent from the prior week's actual build of 28,904.
Ford Motor Co.'s Oakville, Ont., Tempo/Topaz plant remains closed until Jan. 27 for changeover to the Ford Windstar minivan. GM's two car plants in Oshawa, Ont., are closed until February for changeover to the all-new Chevrolet Lumina.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the United States, GM accounts for 37.2 percent; Ford, 30.4 percent; Chrysler Corp., 13.1 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 4.0 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 4.0 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.9 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 2.2 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. USA Inc., 2.1 percent; Diamond-Star Motors Corp., 1.2 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 1.1 percent; Navistar International Transportation Corp., 0.7 percent; and other truck manufacturers, 1.1 percent.
