WANTED .. BRAVE SOLES; Firm's fire walk for Forget Me Not.

Byline: Martin ShawAssistant Head of News

VOLUNTEERS are wanted to walk over hot coals for a Huddersfield charity.

Up to 50 brave 'soles' will take part in a fire walk organised by Birstall digital design agency Ascensor.

The Ascensor Fire Walk, on Friday August 15, hopes to raise at least PS4,000 for the Forget Me Not Children's Hospice at Brackenhall.

All volunteers will undergo two hours of intensive "mental training" before they hot foot it over a 20ft pathway of burning coals.

The fire walk is run by a specialist company Blaze which promises "one of the most thrilling and exciting evenings of your life".

The event, which includes live music and food, will take place in Ascensor's car park at the Oakwell Industrial Park off Gelderd Road.

Many of the firm's staff, including managing director Andrew Firth, are taking part.

Marketing assistant Alex Blythe, 20, who is also psyching himself up for the challenge, said: "As we haven't done this before none of us really know what to expect.

"The two hours of mental preparation and training is supposed to set you up, so I'm not really nervous, just excited."

There is a warning on the Blaze website which says: "Participants are advised that there is an inherent risk in fire walking and if they voluntarily choose to fire walk, there is a small possibility that they may receive injuries requiring medical attention.

"Even though all our events are prepared with the greatest expertise and due diligence and all of the potential risks are minimised by us, to remove all risk is virtually impossible.

It would no longer be genuine fire walking." Registration for the walk is at 6.30pm on the night with the walk itself starting at 9pm. There is a PS25 signup fee and all those taking part must raise at least PS100.
