WANTED -- MOTHERS-TO-BE TO SOLVE 'PREGNANT' QUESTION

WANTED -- MOTHERS-TO-BE TO SOLVE 'PREGNANT' QUESTION
OAKLAND, Calif., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Do pregnant women really have cravings for ice cream and pickles? Edy's Grand Ice Cream is ready to settle the question once and for all!
Edy's Grand Ice Cream is seeking pregnant women for an ice cream and pickles (optional) tasting to be held at the Radisson Hotel South in Bloomington on Sunday, June 7, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will "labor" over the gallons of ice cream in as many flavors as they would like on that day. A guest -- hopefully the proud papa -- is also invited to attend and sample along with Mom.
"For years, customers have called and written to us about their cravings for ice cream while they were pregnant," said Diane McIntyre, public relations manager for Edy's. "Most often, the craving is so intense that their husbands end up trekking down to the store at midnight to pick up their favorite flavor."
With this unusual tasting, Edy's hopes to answer the questions that have existed for generations surrounding pregnancies:
1) Do pregnant women really have cravings for ice cream and pickles
or is the notion just an old wives' tale?
2) Are particular flavors more appealing during pregnancy?
3) Do husbands enjoy "sympathy cravings" during the pregnancy?
4) Based on previous pregnancies, if any, does the baby grow up as
an ice cream lover and prospective "official ice cream taster?"
Each mother participating in the tasting will receive an Edy's baby bib, an Edy's baby-size ice cream cone t-shirt and a gift certificate for one quart of Edy's Grand Ice Cream.
Edy's will accept applications for the event through May 29, 1992. All participants must be pregnant at the time of the event. To make a reservation, send either a picture which shows the pregnancy or documentation which would verify the pregnancy to: Edy's Grand Ice Cream Maternity Tasting, 5929 College Avenue, Oakland, Calif. 94618 by May 29, 1992. Edy's will confirm reservations and send additional information on the tasting prior to June 7.
