WANG UNVEILS THREE RETAIL PC MODELS WITH UNIQUE ON-BOARD AUDIO FEATURES;
 MULTIMEDIA PC, NOTEBOOK SYSTEM, AND PC ACCESSORIES ALSO DEBUT
 LOWELL, Mass., Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Moving vigorously to expand its presence in the PC mass merchandising channel, Wang Laboratories, Inc. (AMEX: WAN) today announced three new models in its EXEC Series of PCs that boast powerful built-in audio capabilities, as well as a multimedia PC, a notebook model, and a new line of PC supplies and accessories.
 Targeted at the mass merchant channel, all new products will be unveiled during the Winter Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas, from Jan. 9-12.
 "The desktop EXEC systems with our innovative audio circuitry break new ground in offering home-office and small-business PC users a Microsoft Windows-based audio solution that instantly opens up new opportunities for productivity gains," said Walter F. Foley, director, PC Sales and Marketing for the Mass Merchandise Channel at Wang.
 EXEC Series systems with the built-in audio integrated circuit are able to provide sound without an add-on board that would take up an extra slot. The systems emit sound either through a built-in speaker in the bezel or through optional add-on speakers or headphones.
 These systems offer features such as a recorder function for dictating letters or memos and "Talking Tours" that give new users spoken overview of the system. Because these PCs combine audio circuitry with an on-board modem, they can also serve as telephone answering machines. The systems will also include Monologue(R) text-to-speech conversion software, which will enable a user, for example, to check for omissions in a word processing document by comparing a computer-generated reading with the original text.
 The EXEC Series models with audio capabilities range from a 25-Megahertz (MHz), 80386SX-based model to a unit built around a 33MHz, 8486DX microprocessor. A full range of Microsoft Corporation software, including the latest releases of the Microsoft Windows graphical environment, Works for Windows, and the Microsoft Productivity and Entertainment Packs are factory-installed on the systems.
 Manufacturer's suggested retail prices will be $1,799.95 for the System 34350-5, $2,299.95 for the System 4001-2, and $2,599.95 for the System 4030-2. All will be available in spring 1992.
 Wang also announced the EXEC PLUS System 3127-1, a multimedia PC that combines a full-featured 80386SX-based, 20MHz EXEC Series PC with multimedia capabilities -- graphics, sound, animation, and CD-ROM storage.
 With 4MB of system memory and an 80MB disk drive, the EXEC PLUS system 3127-1 goes above the market average in memory and storage capacity for running a wide range of multimedia programs. Bundled multimedia hardware add-ons will include the SoundBlaster Pro card and a CD-ROM drive from Creative Labs Inc. The EXEC PLUS will also feature pre-installed top-of-the-line multimedia software, most notably Compton's Multimedia Encyclopedia(R) for Windows and the King's Quest V 3-D animated adventure game from Sierra On-Line, Inc. In addition, the EXEC PLUS will include the Monologue(R) text-to-speech conversion software from First Byte(R) and SpeedReader(tm) for Windows from Davidson & Associates, Inc.
 "We designed our multimedia system as a high-quality, brand-name product that would allow value-oriented retailers to stand out in the channel, "Foley said, "and we believe the EXEC PLUS offers an exceptional retail value."
 The EXEC PLUS system will be available in February, at a manufacturer's retail price of $2,599.
 Wang also introduced the EXEC System 1000 notebook PC. Built around a 20MHz, 80386SL microprocessor and weighing 6.5 pounds, this model includes 2MB of system memory, a 1.44MB diskette drive, a 2,400-baud modem, and a triple supertwist 9-inch LCD display. Available in spring 1992, the EXEC 1000 has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $2,499.
 In addition, Wang announced a new line of PC supplies and accessories for the retail channel. The product line includes video boards, internal and external modems and FAX/modems, and uninterruptible power supplies, and will be available in March.
 "Wang is introducing supplies and accessories to offer retailers in the mass merchandising channel additional revenue opportunities," Foley said.
 Wang Laboratories, Inc., headquartered in Lowell, Mass., serves customers in 130 countries with computer-based information processing systems including data, text, image, and voice processing, as well as telecommunications and networking products.
