WANG EXTENDS IMAGING SERVICES TO IBM AS/400

LOWELL, Mass., March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Wang Laboratories, Inc. (AMEX: WAN) today announced the immediate availability of OPEN/image for AS/400, a set of products providing document imaging services to interactive applications running on IBM's AS/400 midrange computers. These products allow AS/400 users to take advantage of Wang's industry- leading imaging capability for their new or existing AS/400 applications.
OPEN/image for AS/400 has three principal components. The OPEN/image API (Application Program Interface) for OS/400 is callable from applications written in C, COBOL, or RPG, enabling seamless application-level integration between AS/400 applications and associated images. OPEN/image WorkStation for 5250 is a Microsoft Windows-based imaging interface for the AS/400 that allows image functions to be processed on client PCs linked to industry-standard LAN servers. It uses Wang's OPEN/image for Windows to perform the underlying image services, with images residing on a local PC, a redirected drive, or an image server. The image servers are Wang's OPEN/image Server for AIX and OPEN/image Server for NetWare, which provide image management support for image libraries on magnetic, magneto/optical and WORM storage subsystems. OPEN/image Fax API for OS/400 is an optional AS/400-based software package allowing an AS/400 application to access OPEN/image Fax Imaging services.
Customers can develop image-enabled applications in their native software environment using existing staff and expertise, because the OPEN/image API for OS/400 and OPEN/image Fax API for OS/400 reside on the AS/400 system. No programming is required on the client or the image server. Like all Wang's OPEN/image products, the AS/400 set is database independent, so customers can add imaging capabilities regardless of the database they employ.
OPEN/image for AS/400 products are available in a variety of packaging options:
-- The Base Development Kit includes OPEN/image API for OS/400, one set of documentation, one copy of OPEN/image WorkStation for 5250, and one copy of OPEN/image for Windows Runtime. Price is $13,995.
