WANG ANNOUNCES ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE TO SUPPORT CHAPTER 11 RESTRUCTURING
LOWELL, Mass., Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Wang Laboratories, Inc. (AMEX: WAN.B) today announced organizational changes that will support the company's efforts to emerge from the recent Chapter 11 filing. The company is reducing organization layers in order to improve communications and to reduce cost.
Today's changes will result in Wang's country and regional management outside the United States reporting directly to Joseph M. Tucci, executive vice president, operations, instead of through geographical theater heads. Wang's operations in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East had previously reported to Kenneth A. Olisa, senior vice president and general manager. Olisa, for personal reasons, will not be returning to Wang's corporate office, and he will leave the company. However, he will continue to assist the company in its sales and marketing initiatives as an independent consultant.
Richard W. Miller, chairman and chief executive officer said, "This next few months will be the most critical period in Wang's history. Two vital elements of our restructuring are the performance of our sales and marketing organization and the communication of the new OFFICE 2000 open products strategy to the worldwide marketplace. Success will depend on short communication lines and fast action."
Olisa, said, "Having only just relocated to London, it was impractical to consider moving my family again. However, nearly 12 years of loyalty and commitment to the people and customers of Wang made it equally impossible to totally sever my relationship with the company at this critical juncture. I look forward to continuing my work with the dedicated people at Wang, and to contributing in any way that I can to achieve the successful formulation and implementation of the recovery plan."
"We regret that Ken has made the decision to remain in London rather than return to Lowell. However, we are happy that we have found a way for him to stay on our team so that we can benefit from his skills and experience in this time of transition," said Miller.
