WALT DISNEY'S CLASSIC '101 DALMATIANS' HAS WORLD TELEVISION PREMIERE ON THE DISNEY CHANNEL APRIL 17 DURING 10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Diabolical Dognapping, Romance, Comedy and Adventure
Make Up this Entertaining Animated Feature
BURBANK, Calif., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- One of Walt Disney's most stylish, sophisticated and entertaining animated features, "101 Dalmatians," comes to The Disney Channel in a world television premiere on April 17 at 7 p.m. (ET/PT) as part of The Disney Channel's 10th anniversary special programming weekend of April 17 and 18.
Romance, comedy, adventure and a diabolical dognapping form the basis of this beloved classic. Pongo and his master, Roger, meet the lovely Dalmatian Perdita and her owner, Anita, while in the park. After some fancy footwork by Pongo, he and Perdita fall madly in love, as do their human pets, Roger and Anita, and a double wedding ensues. However, evil is soon afoot. A crafty villainess named Cruella De Vil longs for a coat made from the spotted fur of Dalmatian puppies.
Cruella soon sets her sights on her former schoolmate Anita's Dalmatians, eagerly awaiting Perdita's first litter. But, when Cruella is told that she cannot have Pongo and Perdita's 15 puppies, she dognaps the litter and sets into motion the wildest dog-hunt ever. The two Dalmatians, their human pets and an army of animals scour the English countryside in search of the missing puppies.
"101 Dalmatians" was the first of the classic animated features to employ the revolutionary animation technology of the time, xerography. This technology allowed the animator's original rendering to be copied directly to the screen, instead of being traced, which can slightly modify the artist's original concept.
This Disney classic also features a record number of "spots." Pongo has 72, Perdita, 68 (she has fewer spots in order to give her a more feminine and delicate look), and each of the 99 puppies has 30. This brings the grand total of spots drawn for 113,760 frames of film to 6,469,952.
Based on the popular book by Dodie Smith, "101 Dalmatians" was developed by storyman Bill Peet. Rod Taylor gives Pongo a voice, while Betty Lou Gerson brings the devilish Cruella to life. Ben Wright provides the voice for Roger and Lisa Davis voices his human mate Anita.
 "101 Dalmatians" will also air on May 2 at 7 p.m. during the "Magical World of Disney." Other May dates are the 4th at 1 p.m., 8th at 9 p.m., 14th at 8 p.m., 16th at 10 a.m., 19th at 6 p.m., 22nd at 4 p.m., 25th at 6 p.m., 29th at 11 a.m., and 31st at 6 p.m. All times are ET/PT.
The Disney Channel, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in April, is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Co.
