fhb Ayley and Chloe suffer from cerebral palsy and had been wheelchairbound.
But operations carried out by world-famous surgeon Dr TS Park and his team in St Louis have given the family fresh hope that the girls may be able to walk.
Dr Park's team have a 100per cent success rate in the procedure, known as selective dorsal rhizotomy.
Averil and Frazer celebrated by setting up a page on the social networking site called Help Ayley and Chloe Walk, including photos of the toddlers.
Ayley is pictured taking her first ever unaided steps and the caption from their proud parents reads: "Wow, wow, go Ayley."
Although Chloe's progress is slightly behind her twin, she is able to take steps with a walking frame.
The family made the 4000-mile journey to Missouri on January 6 after more than a year of fundraising. The twins' big sister Lily stayed behind with relatives.
The family, from Carnoustie, Angus, arrived back in Scotland earlier this week.
Averil posted yesterday: "We're home and looking forward to the girls starting back at nursery and carrying on with physio every day. Their progress is brillant."
