 WALKER LEWIS NAMED PRESIDENT OF AVON U.S.
 NEW YORK, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Walker Lewis, 47, has been named


president of Avon's U.S. direct selling business and executive vice president
of Avon Products, Inc. (NYSE: AVP), the company announced today. He has been chairman and chief executive officer of Mercer


Management Consulting Inc., a division of the Mercer Group, which is owned by Marsh & McLennan. Lewis replaces E. V. Goings, who resigned late last month.
 In addition to running Mercer Management Consulting, Lewis has been an ongoing consultant to major clients including Avon. His work with Avon included corporate strategy issues, as well as assessment of the company's marketing, field sales and sales support operations.
 After graduating cum laude from Harvard University in 1967, Lewis was awarded a Harvard Corning Traveling Fellowship and spent a year in Vietnam and South America. In 1968 he joined the faculty of Ohio University where he served as assistant to the executive vice president of the university. In 1971 Lewis joined the Boston Consulting Group and began his 20-year career in the consulting arena. In 1973 he founded Strategic Planning Associates. Over the next 17 years SPA's annual fee business expanded to more than $50 million. Clients included Royal Dutch Shell, Corning Glass, General Mills and Ralston-Purina. In late 1989 Lewis sold Strategic Planning Associates to Marsh & McLennan, which merged SPA with Temple, Barker and Sloane to form Mercer Management Consulting.
 Lewis serves as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Washington Institute of Foreign Affairs and Harvard Committee on University Resources. He is president of the board of trustees of St. Paul's School and trustee of the Eaglebrook School and National Cathedral School.
