WALES: Golf club's fetching reward for Deuce.
Deuce was rewarded for returning more than 3,000 balls to members of Pontnewydd Golf Club.
But despite the honour he is still the only member not allowed in the clubhouse as canine visitors are banned.
The friendly white terrier mongrel collects the balls on his daily walks with owner and club member Jim Phillis.
Mr Phillis, who lives on the perimeter of the Monmouthshire course, then returns all Deuce's finds to the club, providing members with a supply of replacement balls.
Mr Phillis stresses the number of lost balls does not reflect the quality of play at the club.
"It is not an easy course to play and in summer when the ferns are 3ft high you've only to go a few feet off course and you've lost your ball," he says.
Club secretary Carl Phillips said the club's junior and senior sections had both won Welsh championship titles.
"I think it is down to the confidence of hitting the ball and knowing you are going to get it back.
"I've been playing with the same ball for two years, I can't get rid of it."
One junior member plays only with the same expensive brand of balls as his idol Tiger Woods - all picked up by Deuce, said Mr Phillips.
As a mark of the club's gratitude, Deuce has been made a member of the veterans section, although at six years old he is a little younger than his fellow over-50 players.
