WALES: Brown is big girl's blouse: Johnson.
BORIS Johnson warned Gordon Brown yesterday he would look like a "big girl's blouse" if he did not call a snap general election.
In a sustained personal onslaught, Mr Johnson also likened the Prime Minister to a "great quivering jelly of indecision" about the timing of an election.
But Mr Johnson, newly adopted as the Tory candidate for Mayor of London, himself refused to say whether he would defend his Commons seat in an autumn poll.
Speaking to a Conservative Party conference fringe meeting in Blackpool, Mr Johnson said: "If he fails to call it now then what will we say?
"We will say he's wimped out, we will say he's a big girl's blouse."
His comments follow mixed messages from Labour figures about the likelihood of an early election.
While Mr Brown has given little away about his thinking, some of his closest advisers are known to be urging him to capitalise on Labour's strong lead in the polls.
Mr Johnson faces a personal dilemma if the Prime Minister goes to the country before next May's mayoral contest.
If he fights his Henley seat again while running for Mayor he will face claims he is not confident about beating Labour incumbent Ken Livingstone.
But, if he quits the Commons and fails to win the mayoralty, he will lose his place in frontline politics.
Asked yesterday whether he would stand in an early parliamentary election, Mr Johnson said: "This question is better directed at the great quivering jelly of indecision that is Gordon Brown."
