WAL-MART TO OPEN 56 STORES IN ONE DAY BENTONVILLE, Ark. Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
(NYSE: WMT) will open 56 new, relocated or expanded stores Nov. 5.
The company said 31 new stores, 16 expanded stores and 9 relocated stores bring the total number of Wal-Mart stores to 1,683. Delaware and Maryland will expand the Wal-Mart trade territory to 40 states. The latest Wal-Mart store openings create 7,155 jobs, continuing Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.'s record as one of the largest providers of new jobs in America. Wal-Mart employs more than 366,000, an increase of 38,000 this year. "Wal-Mart's goal for the last 29 years has been to serve our customers and assist their needs," said David Glass, president and chief executive officer, "and this goal remains unchanged." "This has been achieved through our unique partnership with Wal-Mart associates, who are solely responsible for our success," Glass added. The company has added 110 new Wal-Mart stores and 46 SAM'S Clubs since Jan. 31. On Nov. 5, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. will operate 1,683 Wal-Mart stores, 194 SAM'S Clubs and 4 Wal-Mart's HYPERMART*USA units in 40 states. The company, headquartered in Bentonville, Ark. , also operates 19 major Distribution Centers across the nation.
