WAL-MART STORES REPORTS DECEMBER SALES

 BENTONVILLE, Ark., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT; PSE) today reported net sales for the month of December of $8,819,000,000, an increase of 18 percent from sales of $7,463,000,000 in the same period a year earlier.
 For the 11 months ending Dec. 31, sales increased 21 percent to $62,295,000,000 from $51,310,000,000 for the same period a year ago.
 Sam's Clubs had sales of $1,775,000,000, up 16 percent for the month, and $13,456,000,000, up 18 percent for the 11 months ended Dec. 31.
 Same store (club) sales for the periods ended Dec. 31 were as follows:

 (a) Sam's same club sales reflect a 2 percent decrease due to cannibalization in Sam's markets.
 The company had 1,994 Wal-Mart stores (includes 67 Supercenter stores) and 331 Sam's Clubs in operation at Dec. 31, compared with 1,838 Wal-Mart stores (includes 30 Supercenter stores) and 256 Sam's Clubs a year ago.
 Wal-Mart operates in a 48-state trade area, and its securities are listed on the New York and Pacific stock exchanges.
