WAL-MART STORES, INC. REPORTS APRIL SALES

 BENTONVILLE, Ark., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT; PSE), today reported net sales for the month of April of $5,031,000,000, an increase of 22 percent from sales of $4,110,000,000 in the same period a year earlier.
 For the three months ending April 30, net sales increased 20 percent to $13,921,000,000 from $11,649,000,000 for the same period a year ago. Total sales through April 1992 include one additional day due to leap year as compared with year-to-date sales through April 1993. Excluding the sales for Feb. 29, 1992, Wal-Mart sales for the three months ended April 1993 increased 22 percent.
 Same store sales increased 6 percent for the month of April. Excluding the sales for Feb. 29, 1992, Wal-Mart's same store sales for the three months increased 5 percent. Including Feb. 29, 1992, same store sales increased 3 percent for the three months.
 Sam's Clubs had sales of $1,083,000,000, up 22 percent for the month of April, and $3,093,000,000, up 19 percent for the three months ended April 30. Excluding the sales for Feb. 29, 1992, Sam's three months sales increased 21 percent. Same club sales were flat for the month, and excluding Feb. 29, 1992, Sam's same club sales for the three months decreased 1 percent compared with a decrease of 3 percent including Feb. 29, 1992.
 At April 30, the company operated 1,914 Wal-Mart stores (includes 40 Supercenter stores), and 277 Sam's Clubs, compared with 1,735 Wal-Mart stores (includes nine Supercenter stores), and 215 Sam's Clubs a year ago.
 Wal-Mart (WMT) operates in a 45-state trade area, and its securities are listed on the New York and Pacific stock exchanges.
