WAL-MART REPORTS OCTOBER SALES BENTONVILLE, Ark., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
(NYSE: WMT; PSE) today reported net sales for the month of October of $3,671,000,000, an increase of 35 percent from sales of $2,726,000,000 in the same period a year earlier.
For the nine months ending Oct. 31, sales increased 36 percent to $30,248,000,000 from $22,241,000,000 for the same period a year ago. Wal-Mart's net sales include the October results of the McLane subsidiary of $190,000,000, and year-to-date sales of $1,724,000,000. Excluding these sales, net sales would be $3,481,000,000, an increase of 28 percent for the month and $28,524,000,000, an increase of 28 percent for the year. Same store sales increased 9 percent for the month of October and 10 percent for the nine months ended Oct. 31. Sam's Clubs had sales of $796,000,000, up 45 percent for the month, and $6,524,000,000, up 46 percent for the nine months ended Oct. 31. Same club sales increased 14 percent for the month and 17 percent for the nine months. The company had 1,652 Wal-Mart stores (includes six Supercenter stores), 194 Sam's Clubs and four Hypermart*USA units in operation at Oct. 31, compared with 1,503 Wal-Mart stores (includes five Supercenter stores), 141 Sam's Clubs and four Hypermart*USA units a year ago.
