WAL-MART REPORTS JANUARY SALES

 BENTONVILLE, Ark., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT; PSE) today reported net sales for the month of January of $4,184,000,000, an increase of 26 percent from sales of $3,308,000,000 in the same period a year earlier.
 For the 12 months ending Jan. 31, net sales increased 26 percent to $55,496,000,000 from $43,887,000,000 for the same period a year ago.
 Same store sales increased 10 percent for the month of January and 11 percent for the 12 months ended Jan. 31.
 Sam's Clubs had sales of $976,000,000, up 28 percent for the month, and $12,339,000,000, up 31 percent for the 12 months ended Jan. 31. Same club sales increased 5 percent for the month and 9 percent for the 12 months.
 The company had 1,880 Wal-Mart stores (includes 30 Supercenter stores) and 256 Sam's Clubs in operation at Jan. 31, compared with 1,720 Wal-Mart stores (includes six Supercenter stores), and 208 Sam's Clubs a year ago.
 Wal-Mart (WMT) operates in a 45-state trade area, and its securities are listed on the New York and Pacific stock exchanges.
