WAL-MART REPORTS FEBRUARY SALES BENTONVILLE, Ark., March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
(NYSE: WMT; PSE) today reported net sales for the month of February of $3,609 million, an increase of 34 percent from sales of $2,703 million in the same period a year earlier.
Wal-Mart's net sales include the February results of the McLane subsidiary of $186 million, compared to sales of $171 million a year earlier. Excluding these sales, net sales would be $3,423 million, an increase of 35 percent for the month. Same store sales increased 20 percent for the month. Sam's Clubs had sales of $820 million, up 41 percent for the month of February. Same club sales increased 23 percent for the month. Same store sales for February 1992 include the results of leap year day, the 29th. Wal-Mart and Sam's comparable sales without this extra day would have been 13 percent and 16 percent. Total sales for the company and Sam's would have been $3,416 million and $773 million, up 26 percent and 33 percent, respectively. At Feb. 29, the company operated 1,720 Wal-Mart stores (includes six Supercenter stores), 210 Sam's Clubs and four Hypermart*USA units, compared with 1,578 Wal-Mart stores (includes five Supercenter stores), 176 Sam's Clubs and four Hypermart*USA units a year ago.
