 WACHOVIA ANNOUNCES NEW POSITIONS FOR FURR AND MCCOY
 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Anthony L. Furr has


been elected president, chief operating officer and a director of South Carolina National Corporation, Columbia, S.C., effective September 1. He presently serves as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Wachovia Corporation.
 Robert S. McCoy, currently executive vice president and comptroller of Wachovia Corporation, will succeed Furr as chief financial officer.
 Furr, 48, joined Wachovia in 1969. His assignments have included opening and managing Wachovia's New York City Edge Act bank, head of the International Group and executive in charge of the North Carolina bank's Piedmont Triad Region, with responsibility for banking offices in 17 cities. He was named to his current position in 1990.
 McCoy, 53, assumed his present position in Winston-Salem early this year. He previously was president of South Carolina National Corporation and chief financial officer and vice chairman of South Carolina National Bank He joined SCN in 1984 following a career with the accounting firm of Price Waterhouse where he rose to partner.
 Furr is a native of Albemarle, N.C., and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the American Graduate School of International Management, Phoenix, Ariz.
 McCoy, a native of Traverse City, Mich., is a graduate of Western Michigan University.

 Wachovia Corporation is an interstate bank holding company with 518 banking offices in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. South Carolina National Corporation and South Carolina National Bank became member companies in December 1991.
