WABC-TV IS THE TOP-RATED STATION IN NEW YORK IN THE JANUARY 1993 RATINGS RACE

 -- Channel 7 Number One Sign-On to Sign-Off in Nielsen and Arbitron

 NEW YORK, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- WABC-TV finishes in first place in the January 1993 ratings race, posting a 7.6 rating/19 share in Nielsen and an 8.1 rating/19 share in Arbitron, Mon-Sun Sign-On to Sign-Off. WCBS-TV places third with a 5.6 rating/14 share in Nielsen and a 5.8 rating/14 share in Arbitron, while second place WNBC-TV ends with a 6.1 rating/15 share in Nielsen and a 6.5 rating/16 share in Arbitron.
 Starting the day at 6 a.m., "Eyewitness News This Morning" delivers a 2.2 rating/18 share in Nielsen and a 2.8 rating/21 share in Arbitron. This compares to WCBS-TV's "Channel 2 Early News" (1.3 rating/10 share in both Nielsen and Arbitron), WNBC-TV's "Today New York 6-7A" (2.2 rating/18 share in Nielsen and 2.4 rating/18 share in Arbitron) and WNYW-TV's "GDNY 1st Edition" (1.4 rating/12 share in Nielsen and 1.2 rating/ 9 share in Arbitron.)
 Then at 9 a.m., "Live! With Regis & Kathie Lee" beats its morning talk competitors combined, delivering a 7.0 rating/28 share in Nielsen and a 6.8 rating/28 share in Arbitron. WCBS-TV's "Jane Whitney" posts a 2.5 rating/10 share in Nielsen and 3.0 rating/12 share in Arbitron, while WNBC-TV's "Jerry Springer" shows a 2.4 rating/10 share in Nielsen and 2.4 rating/ 9 share in Arbitron.
 "The Sally Jessey Raphael Show" at 10 a.m. also beats the competition's talkers and wins its time period with a 6.4 rating/25 share in Nielsen and a 7.3 rating/29 share in Arbitron.
 Just four months after its late September 1992 debut, "Eyewitness News at Noon" posts a 4.2 rating/15 share in Nielsen and a 4.8 rating/17 share in Arbitron, proving an increasingly strong competitor to WCBS- TV's six year-old "Channel 2 News at Noon" (5.3 rating/19 share Nielsen and 5.9 rating/21 share Arbitron). It beats WWOR-TV's long-running "News at Noon" (4.1 rating/14 share in Nielsen and 3.3 rating/12 share in Arbitron).
 "Oprah Winfrey" continues to dominate in early fringe with a 9.6 rating/24 share in Nielsen and a 10.8 rating/28 share in Arbitron. At 4 p.m., WCBS-TV's "Geraldo" posts a 6.0 rating/15 share in Nielsen and a 6.0 rating/14 share in Arbitron, while WNBC-TV's "Donahue" delivers a 6.6 rating/16 share in Nielsen and a 7.1 rating/17 share in Arbitron. At 3 p.m., WNBC-TV's "Maury Povich" achieves a 5.9 rating/17 share in Nielsen and a 6.3 rating/18 share in Arbitron.
 First place in the 5 p.m. news race belongs to "Eyewitness News." Anchored by Greg Hurst and Roz Abrams, "Eyewitness News" delivers a 10.0 rating/21 share in Nielsen and a 12.0 rating/24 share in Arbitron. "Channel 2 News-5" on WCBS-TV achieves a 6.0 rating/13 share in Nielsen and a 6.2 rating/12 share in Arbitron, while WNBC-TV's "News 4 NY at 5" posts a 7.0 rating/15 share in Nielsen and an 8.2 rating/16 share in Arbitron.
 At 6 p.m., "Eyewitness News" with Bill Beutel commands the lead over its competitors, delivering an 11.2 rating/20 share in Nielsen and a 13.3 rating/24 share in Arbitron. WCBS-TV's "Channel 2 News" shows a 6.6 rating/12 share in Nielsen and a 7.0 rating/13 share in Arbitron, while WNBC-TV's "News 4 New York" delivers a 6.5 rating/12 share in Nielsen and a 7.9 rating/14 share in Arbitron.
 "ABC World News Tonight" remains the leader in the network news race at 6:30 p.m. Anchored by Peter Jennings, this newscast posts a 12.8 rating/22 share in Nielsen and a 14.1 rating/25 share in Arbitron, matching the combined shares of its competitors. "CBS Evening News" delivers a 6.2 rating/11 share in Nielsen and a 6.8 rating/12 share in Arbitron, while "NBC Nightly News" scores a 6.2 rating/11 share in Nielsen and a 7.4 rating/13 share in Arbitron.
 WABC-TV is the top-rated station during the 6-7 p.m. news hour, delivering a 12.0 rating/21 share in Nielsen and a 13.7 rating/24 share in Arbitron. This compares to WCBS-TV's 6.4 rating/11 share in Nielsen and 6.9 rating/12 share in Arbitron, and WNBC-TV's 6.2 rating/11 share in Nielsen and 7.4 rating/13 share in Arbitron.
 "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" continue as the front-runners in access, both winning their respective time periods by tremendous margins over "Hard Copy" and "Entertainment Tonight" on WCBS-TV and "Cops" and "Love Connection" on WNBC-TV. In Nielsen, "Jeopardy" delivers an 18.6 rating/30 share, while "Wheel" posts an 18.6 rating/29 share. In Arbitron, "Jeopardy" garners a 19.1 rating/32 share and "Wheel" achieves a 17.7 rating/28 share.
 In prime time, WABC-TV sweeps first place in both services, posting a 12.5 rating/19 share in both Nielsen and Arbitron. WCBS-TV ends with an 11.2 rating/17 share in Nielsen and 11.5 rating/17 share in Arbitron, while WNBC-TV delivers an 11.1 rating/17 share in Nielsen and an 11.8 rating/18 share in Arbitron.
 The win continues at 11 p.m. as WABC-TV's "Eyewitness News" with Bill Beutel and Diana Williams delivers a 10.8 rating/21 share in Nielsen and an 11.7 rating/22 share in Arbitron. WCBS-TV's "Channel 2 News" places third, posting a 7.9 rating/15 share in Nielsen and an 8.7 rating/16 share in Arbitron, while WNBC-TV's "News 4 New York" finishes second with a 10.0 rating/19 share in Nielsen and a 9.1 rating/17 share in Arbitron.
