WABBA uses Sardar Ismail's photo for World championship logo.

Summary: Sardar Ismail becomes the first Kurdish and Iraqi bodybuilder ever to have his photo used as logo of 2012 WABBA

The Kurdish Globe By Zakaria Muhammed -- Erbil Kurdish Bodybuilder Sardar Ismail shares inside information on how World Amateur Body Building Association changed his view about the sport of bodybuilding.

After securing first place in the Small Men Category and winning a gold medal in Men's World Amateur Bodybuilding Championship held in Italy in June 2012, Kurdish bodybuilder Sardar Ismail, become the first Iraqi and Kurdish man to have his photo used as a logo of 2012 World championship which is currently running in Germany.

The World Amateur Bodybuilding Championship is organized by The World Amateur Body Building Association (WABBA); Although Ismail is already known in Asian and Arab countries, his participation in the World Championship made him well-known all over the world.

Although Ismail knew three months ago that his picture had been selected as the championship photo, he was not able to prepare himself to take part in the championship due to several reasons. Firstly, Ismail had a small injury and his physicians advised him not to participate in any tournaments this year.

"I wish I could participate in the World Championship for the second time. I am pleased that I was selected to join to Proof Class of the championship," said Sardar Ismail, who is the first Kurdish man who was promoted from Amateur to Proof class in the World Championship.

Ismail believes the championships which are supervised and organized by WABBA are better for him to participate in than those organized by International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB).

"The referees of WABBA have been fairer than IFBB's. The participants of WABBA competitions are mostly from Europe who always give enthusiasm to the events," noted Ismail.

The World Amateur Body Building Association (WABBA) is a bodybuilding organization founded in 1976 by the legendary French bodybuilder Serge Nubret. The association joined the National Amateur Bodybuilders Association (NABBA) based in England in 1977, but disjoined again in 1983. WABBA holds World Championships and European Championships.

The athletes who compete within the category Men Body aren"t limited by any limit of weight. The Categories are defined by the height of the competitors except for the categories Super J24 (this category is similar to the former juniors" category except for the age limit), Super Masters and Masters which are defined by the age of the athletes.

WABBA have a branch in Iraq and Kurdistan Region headed by Ahmad Majeed, known as Ahmad Rambo. The Kurdistan branch of WABBA is going to organize a championship in Erbil for the Kurdish bodybuilders next month. Being one of the organizers of the championship running in Erbil, is another reason as to why Ismail refused to contribute in the World Championship running Germany.

Ismail has taken part in 14 international championships so far. He secured first place in Arab championships three times and has won two silver medals and a bronze one in the Asian championships. Despite all the titles and medals, Ismail doesn't feel comfortable to take part in the IFBB based competitions as he thinks the referees always prejudge due to organizers" interference.

"In 2010 I took part in a championship in Azerbaijan and I was thinking of winning the first place. I was shocked as I was finally put in the fourth place. This made me think of quitting participating in the championships. But after taking part in the World Amateur Championship in Italy and winning the gold medal, I decided to continue practicing the sport," he divulged.

Ismail said he felt very pleased and motivated as, in addition to Kurdish sportspeople, athletes from outside said many good things about his capabilities and skills.

When asked if the Kurdish government officials have supported him, he answered "In the past I was always complaining the government but after becoming the overall winner of the World Championship, several high ranking officials received me and paid their tributes to me. I believe I was treated differently because the championship was distinguished and the result was great. I thank all of those who encourage me and support my sport," Ismail asks Kurdish bodybuilders to take part in both IFBB and WABBA championships since none of them contradicts the other. "I have noticed many bodybuilders from outside participating in both championships. I have tried both of them. After I won the gold medal, I have heard many bodybuilders from Iraq want to participate in the WABBA competitions." Said Ismail
